The Corona virus has brought the cruise industry to its knees. Every day the ships "burn" millions of euros in the dock, but the shipping companies keep them in operation and want to use the time to build their future. But how long can they hold out?

While the tourism industry suffers, others are happy about the absence of the cruise giants. But without investment from the cruise industry and public pressure, the search for more environmentally friendly propulsion systems can no longer be financed.

And it does so with full steam ahead. Preserving culture, protecting the environment, reviving tourism. Pre-bookings for cruises are already enormously high. This gives the cruise industry hope for a quick comeback - then with social distancing plans, lower capacity utilization, hygiene measures and virus crisis management. But are passengers, countries and cities already ready for this?
